Mapping Strategies for Social Change  2007-2008

   During 2007-2008 AMF will conduct a series of workshops and seminars focused on organizational strategic planning. The meetings will include the following subjects: Re-locating and re-identifying AMF needs; re-defying AMF goals; various strategies for social change; adjustment of strategies to AMF goals and resources. These activities will be attended by AMF staff, board members and volunteers, and will be conducted by experienced counselors and lecturers.
    As a part of the organizational development process, AMF will open a new branch in the city of Petah Tikva (Central District), and will open an office for the Netanya branch. Additionally, a service of legal aid, free of charge, will be established as a component in AMF assistance and advocacy services.                        Currently seeking funding

Tackling Inequalities   2007

  The project aims at mainstreaming, empowering and networking Non-Jewish citizens as full participants in the development of a sustainable civil society in Israel, and at improving the active participation of Non-Jewish citizens themselves in the design of those solutions and policies.
   In order to remedy the ongoing shortage of legal aid services, AMF seeks opportunity to continue its previous successful initiative of a Jewish-Arab Legal Aid Forum for Free Help & Advice. The Forum will be committed to equality of access to appropriate legal aid for people who otherwise could not receive it, as well as to serve as a Law Watch - keeping a lookout for current and forthcoming legislation and preparing cases for presentation in mass media.
    A conference under the title "Promoting Immigration Reform" will explore current trends and discuss viewpoints and visions on immigration to Israel, in order to facilitate the preparation and implementation of more rational immigration legislation. A workshop for 50 mixed families will be held in order to elevate their knowledge of Israeli legislation, and will include a study of common types of human rights violations regarding mixed families members' (denial or deprivation of citizenship, deportation, discrimination in all its aspects etc.).                             Currently seeking funding

Provision of Legal Assistance and Advice to Non-Jewish Population  2006
 
       The project has been designed to catalyze programmatic and performance enhancement of AMF’s branches in Haifa, Karmiel, Netanya, Jerusalem and Be'er Sheva, in order to improve their strategic planning, staff training, volunteer recruitment and project development skills on local level. The project aims to remedy the ongoing shortage of legal aid services and provide free, confidential and appropriate counseling to mixed families who otherwise can not get it.
        The project seeks at placing the problems of mixed families on the Israeli national agenda, prompting educational programs on the community level, raising awareness on their civil rights, promoting and protecting the rights of non-Jewish family members and attracting their attention to the wide range of social issues, including volunteering as a powerful force for change.      This project was supported by the New Israel Fund

Promoting the Rule of Law    2006

          This project consists of three components:

  • Building AMF’s website in English and Hebrew.
  • Publication of a document in Hebrew: "Between Integration and Alienation: Mixed Families in Israeli Society".
  • Publication of an information document in Hebrew: “A Family Under Siege: Family Reunification and Getting Citizenship for Members of Mixed Families”.

          The project objectives include:

  • To provide the Israeli public and the international community with accurate and updated information about mixed families in Israel.
  • To present the views of and statements by policymakers and members of the Israeli Parliament (the Knesset) on various issues relating to mixed families in Israel.
  • To raise public awareness about legal, political, and social obstacles that impede the integration of mixed families into Israeli society and limit their freedom.

"Israel Should be Concerned": A Campaign for Legalizing Civil Marriage    2004-2005

     AMF's has launched a public campaign, aimed at raising awareness about immigrants who are unable to marry in Israel. AMF carried out a conference to promote the legalization of civil marriage and to discuss how to advance the bill’s introduction into the Knesset. The conference also provided AMF representatives with the opportunity to discuss the phenomenon of intermarriage with policymakers and representatives of the Orthodox, Conservative and Reform movements. As part of its campaign, AMF sent a statement to 75 Members of Knesset calling for the introduction of civil marriage in Israel.
     As a part of this campaign, AMF published an organizational brochure in English and obtained extensive media coverage in English, Hebrew and Russian about AMF initiatives and positions.  In addition, AMF regularly participates in "The Forum for Freedom of Choice in Marriage", a broad coalition composed of 20 key Israeli organizations committed to civil rights, pluralism, equality and social justice.                                    This project was supported by the New Israel Fund

Promoting Equality and Justice  2004-2005

        This project was consisted of four components:

  • Colloquium: "Status Quo and the New Demographic Situation in Israel" 
  • Seminar: "Human and Civil Rights of Mixed Families"
  • Publication of an Information Document in Russian: “Guide for Repatriates – Members of Mixed Families”
  • Publication of a Document in Hebrew: “Promoting Mixed Families' Rights in Israel”

        The project's objectives included:

  • To bring together representatives from different religious and secular sectors of Israeli society and to elaborate ways for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for mixed families alongside Jewish families.
  • To educate non-Jewish immigrants about their civil and human rights in Israel.
  • To analyze and present the statistical and survey data on mixed families.
  • To better inform mixed families about their status and immigration options.
